Inspector Monroe was called away on important police business and his role was filled by sargeant Kelvin Rowlands who crowned the carnival queen opened the carnival and led the procession with Councillor Ault driving him in his black MGTF

Fishley Stone John Wesley Service

On 20th May an open air service at Fishley Church was held in memory of John Wesley and his visits to the area. The service was conducted by local methodists and it was well attended.

Saturday morning the scouts paraded round the common with St George on horseback. Pelsall Pride were giving flags to the children and the scouts raised the St George's Flag on the flagpole.

Sunday service for the borough's Scouts was held at St Matthews Church, the Mayor of Walsall was present and Councillor Ault as St George together with dozens of Scouts of all ages from Pelsall to join with all the scout groups from all over the borough.

We met at Highfield Rd North and set to work to thin out the spinney and clear out all the rubbish.
Ranger Garry Nicholson was overseeing the work and there was a great pile of branches etc left over when we had finished.

ON 19TH NOVEMBER I WAS OUT WITH THE FRIENDS OF PELSALL COMMON AND SOME HEATH END RESIDENTS TO HELP CLEAR OUT THE UNDERGROWTH AROUND HEATH END POOL. WE CLEARED A MOUNTAIN OF BRAMBLES AND WEEDS TO HELP THE STAFF FROM WALSALL COUNCIL TO KEEP ON TOP OF THE MAINTENANCE OF THE COMMON WHICH IS A CONSTANT BATTLE AGAINST THE FORCES OF NATURE.

ON FRIDAY 27TH OCTOBER WE WENT TO THE CINNAMON RESTAURANT WITH THE PELSALL CONSERVATIVES. MOST OF THE PEOPLE HAD NOT TRIED THE FOOD THERE BEFORE AND THEY WERE VERY IMPRESSED AND SAID THAT THEY WOULD RETURN

Pelsall Carnival 2006

This year's Carnival was a great success with more floats and more schools taking part than in recent years. The extra floats made a great spectacle on the day and in spite of the England Match on the day we had a good turnout of spectators from Pelsall and the surrounding area.

Sunday morning saw a few committee members and helpers cleaning up the common. We need more people next year as many hands make light work. The common was restored to its former glory but the helpers were shattered by the heat.

The presentations are to be made soon to local organisations who will benefit from the profits made on the day.

Cinnamon Restaurant Radio Mast

The good news is that Punch Taverns have demanded the removal of the telephone mast because T Mobile never disclosed to them during negotiations that Councillor Ault had taken a petition from local residents to their solicitors last year. During a meeting with Councillor Garry Perry, Councillor Ault, Punch Taverns and T Mobile; the representative from Punch Taverns stated that they never expected such strong objections from residents. When it was pointed out to them that a petition had been handed in by the Councillors they were shocked because it had not been mentioned by T Mobile. After due consideration of this withholding of information by an employee of T Mobile they demanded the removal of the mast by the end of July. We hope that the damaging effect of the protest on the restaurant's business can now be reversed and peace can be restored to Wolverhampton Rd.

Barbeque

Following our successful election campaign in May we decided to invite all the helpers to a barbeque on Saturday 24th June. All those that attended had a good time and were able to meet one another and renew some old friendships. Thank you again to all those who helped.

I would like to thank all the people of Pelsall who voted for me on May 4th and also special thanks to the team who delivered our leaflets. 42.19% turned out to vote which is a credit to local people and I am glad that so many chose to make their voice heard in this election.

You can rest assured that I will continue to build on my election success working on behalf of the local community year in,year out, and standing up for the concerns of Pelsall Residents.

Pelsall Scouts celebrated St George's day in the village starting with the raising of St George's Flag
on Saturday morning. Pelsall Pride provided flags for everyone and collected signatures calling for a bank holiday on St George's day in the future. Councillor Ault appeared dressed as St George and Richard Shepherd MP said a few words to the crowd who attended.

On Sunday Pelsall Scouts joined the rest of the borough's scout groups in the Town Hall for a St George's day service, it was attended by Tom Ansell Leader of the Council, Garry Clarke and Clive Ault who all have long connections with the scout movement.

Cinnamon Restaurant Radio Mast

Last year we collected signatures on a petition to object to a proposed telephone mast on the Swan Pub in Pelsall. Clive took the petition to the solicitors in Birmingham and we were told that the application had been dropped. A few weeks ago the newly converted Cinnamon Restaurant had scaffolding erected on the roof and a mast was erected then covered by a false chimney.

This caused much concern amongst local residents who rang all three councillors to ask what was happening. The restaurant owner was worried about the effect of the objections on his trade and he phoned Clive and asked for his help to sort out the problem.

Clive initially thought that the landlords had arranged this without the restaurant owners knowledge, but we now know having spoken to the Pub Chain who own the building and T Mobile that the restaurant owner did know about it and he agreed to it.

T Mobile have agreed to suspend connection of this mast until other sites have been explored and the situation with local residents resolved. We have had several conversations with the pub chain who own the building and they are keen to resolve the situation amicably with the residents.

LEYLAND CROFT

On Monday March 6th Councillor Ault presented a petition to the council meeting from the residents of Leyland Croft requesting the removal of the island in the middle of the croft to improve access for residents and for emergency vehicles. We hope that some action is forthcoming from this as the residents have been complaining about parking and lack of access for ages.

The three Pelsall Councillors arranged a forum at 1st Pelsall Scout Headquarters so that the Pelsall Residents could come along and discuss any issues that concerned them. Items discussed included the setting of the budget, council tax, WHG in comparison to the council as a social landlord, NHS funding, where is the money being spent, Recycling including use of Green Bins and questions about the future recycling of plastics, delays in processing housing and council tax benefit claims,
recycling of paper in flats.
Garry announced that we will be having 8 dedicated policemen for Pelsall and Rushall plus one seargant. They will be targetting trouble spots and antisocial behaviour.

We discussed parking in the village and St Michael's School survey was being considered amongst other ideas .

It was requested that the hedge at the end of commonside be cut back to improve vision for drivers approaching Allens Lane.

This was a very useful discussion and all the ladies that attended were able to ask questions and air their views.

YOUTH FORUM

Clive and four other councillors from Pelsall and Rushall attended a youth forum at St Michael's Youth Club arranged by the Youth Leaders to give the teenagers of Pelsall and Rushall the opportunity to give their views on local issues and tell the councillors what they would like in Rushall and Pelsall. About 40 teenagers came and they were split into groups to sit and dicuss issues with the councillors and youth leaders. The councillors found the discussions helpfull and they are now discussing how to implement some of the suggestions.

Senior Citizens Concert

Councillor and Mrs Ault were pleased to help the Fun Run Committee with the concert and buffet on the 21st of January. The entertainment was appreciated by all the invited guests from Pelsall and the surrounding area and the buffet provided by Mrs Diane Carpenter and her team of helpers was excellent. It was good to see the community centre being put to such good use.

Fujitsu Partnership with Walsall Council

Councillor Ault was on the scrutiny committee which was to look at the contract before it was signed.

The cabinet , after much consultation and discussion decided that the partnership was not in the best interests of the ratepayers of Walsall so the partnership will not now go ahead.

The good news to report is that the bollards have now been erected by the council at the top of Ryders Hayes Lane to prevent the illegal parking on the grass.

An enforcement order has been served on the developer of the empty house in Highfield Rd North to tidy up the site and make it safe after residents contacted me just after Christmas. The council officer came out to have a look at the site and they have served the notice at the developers offices.

The christmas trees supplied through the Local Neighbourhood Partnership helped to cheer up the village at Christmas and were judged to be a great success.

The friends of Pelsall Common met on Sunday morning on the common to clear up some of the undergrowth around Heath End Pool near Commonside. Councillor Clive Ault met Maureen Payton, Garry the ranger, several other friends and local residents who all helped to clear the area near the pool banks.

The hospital merger is off

Good News the merger of Walsall Hospitals with Wolverhampton is off.
No news about Goscote Hospital as yet or the hospice proposals for the site.
We must not be complacent, this government wants mergers and larger hospitals on fewer sites so we need to be vigilant so that we can work to preserve our local hospital for Walsall People so that they do not have to travel miles for treatment.

The Express and Star reports that the hospital merger may not be happening due to public opposition to the proposals. The Conservative group is opposed to the merger and we need to be vigilant to make sure that services are not transferred elsewhere. The government policy is to centralise services in bigger hospitals so even if they drop the current proposals the policy will not go away. We must all keep an eye on developments in the future.

Meals on Wheels

As reported in the Advertiser this week Walsall's Meals on Wheels Service looks set to keep on delivering hot food following recommendations from the Health and Social Care Scrutiny Committee which objected to the scaling down of the service. Councillor Ault strongly resisted the proposals to provide frozen foods for everyone currently receiving Meals on Wheels because of concerns about quality and nutritional value.
The proposals sent from the committee include the provision of both frozen and hot meals as peoples circumstances differ and choices should be available. The cabinet will now consider the proposals and we should hear the outcome in the next few weeks.

John Wesley Stone, Fishley Lane

John Wesley preached at Fishley Church in Fishley Lane in Pelsall in 1743 to try to stem the riots
against methodists. A plaque commemorates the place where the church once stood near the public footpath in Fishley Lane opposite the Golf driving range.

Robert Ault,who was born in Rushall and became a methodist preacher in Aldridge, lost his goods at the hands of anti-Methodist rioters in 1743. Robert Ault was the Great,great,great,great grandfather of Clive Ault who is a councillor in Pelsall. Thomas Ault, Robert's son was born in Aldridge in 1745 where the family lived until
1761 when they moved to Great Barr, then to West Bromwich where together with John Wesley
they opened the first Weslyan Preaching House in Ault Street West Bromwich.

Councillor Ault lived in Birmingham until he married a Pelsall girl in St Michael's church in 1967
They came to live in Pelsall around 1970 and have lived on the Ryders Hayes Estate for the last 35 years. The Ault family have come full circle and returned to the area where their ancestors lived and where some of them were born. Clive Ault is honoured to serve the people of Pelsall
as their councillor.

The Old House at Home

Following the recent licence application by the brewery for increased opening hours at the Old House at Home in Norton Rd I received a petition and several letters from residents who lived close to the pub. One resident lodged an objection to the application but it was rejected and the brewery has negotiated a compromise with the Council Officers in the Licencing Department.

I have spoken to the area manager at the brewery and he has promised to write to me with their proposals for the future of the pub. When I receive the letter I will copy it and distribute a copy to residents in the vicinity of the pub.

Councillor and Mrs Ault collected signatures in Pelsall Village on a petition produced by Walsall Conservatives. People were keen to register their objection to these proposals which come from government policy to have fewer, bigger hospitals to concentrate
specialties. The conservative group, with the information currently available, oppose the merger proposals.

Westminster Rd, Pelsall Lane Junction

Wednesday 31st August. Development Control meeting, the plans for new homes on Bird's Timberyard land in Rushall. The developers want the access to the houses to be via Pelsall Lane and Westminster Rd.
Councillor Ault said that the access should be from Lichfield Rd for major safety regions. Westminster Rd entrance would become an accident blackspot due to parked cars on Pelsall Lane and proximity to Rushall Lights. After a heated debate lasting one hour Councillor Ault won his argument and the application was refused. The gallery in the council house was packed with residents of Westminster Road who gave Councillor Ault a standing ovation.
